Reasons why to consider a DIY Farm Wedding!

Have you considered a ‘DIY’ farm wedding venue?

Last week I visited a new farm wedding venue in the Peak District and I can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.

The drive to the venue is one of beauty and awe, with breath taking scenery up and down the twisting and winding roads to the farm.

Upon arrival to Common Barn Farm – ‘Peak District Farm Weddings’, the wedding venue coordinator, Jennifer, showed me through to their wedding field. I was blown away by the view over to the Lamaload Reservoir and across the Cheshire Plain – I’m confident that this will be a very popular venue.

What is a ‘DIY’ wedding venue?

I have never visited a venue so beautiful, and with full flexibility for the bride and groom to choose all their own suppliers and allow their ideas run wild. The wedding package at Peak District Farm Weddings includes hire of the 4 acre wedding field which is perfect for marquees, tipis, yurts and even a glamping village if you wish – the package also includes their 4* accommodation (more information on this below). There is certainly plenty of space and opportunity here for you to create the wedding of your dreams.

The farm venue has ample parking on the main gravel car park and extra in the adjacent fields (weather permitting).

This venue is truly a blank canvas for you to create your ideal reception, and is perfect for those who love being outdoors, love being different and love being creative.

Hire of the wedding field for 2013 / 14 starts at only £1,750 – with a 50% deposit being paid upfront and 50% 8 weeks before the Wedding Date.

Is there accommodation for your guests?

As I mentioned above, the ‘wedding package’ includes the 4* accommodation at the farm – 5 B&B rooms and 2 self-catering cottages sleeping 22 people in total. The accommodation is not optional due to its proximity to the wedding field, the owner does not wish for other guests to disturb the wedding, or vice versa, a wedding to disturb other guests. The accommodation is included at its normal cost – a room in the B&B (double occupancy) starts at £65 including breakfast, and prices for 3 nights in both of the owners cottages (converted hay barns) start at £700. I’m sure you’ll agree, it is very reasonable compared to what you would pay at other venues, and not only that, you have exclusivity of the venue for your wedding!

The B&B is comprised of five rooms – one double, three twin (including one with disabled facilities – a wet room, hand rails and lowered switches), as well as one family room (a double bed and a set of bunk beds).

There are two cottages on the farm, both tastefully converted 10 years ago from hay barns (and recently updated), they still retain some original features including exposed stone walls and wooden beams. Meadow Cottage has two bedrooms, one double and one twin – sleeping 4 in total. Croft Cottage has three bedrooms, one double, one twin and one bunk bed room – sleeping 6 in total. In addition, both cottages have an adjoining door which can be opened if necessary, for example, if a large group wanted to rent both cottages. Rates for 2014 start at £375 for Croft Cottage, £325 for the Meadow Cottage, (based on three nights starting on a Saturday).

The owner also own a 5* four bedroom barn conversion (sleeping 8), only 2 minutes drive from the farm which can be rented if necessary – but isn’t automatically included in the wedding package.

Convinced yet?

If you still need convincing then a visit to the farm will win you over – you’ll get to admire the spectacular views and get a real feel for the venue and what can be done – think tipi’s, gleaming antique tractors, stone walls, and green fields.

Use your three C’s here, use your Creativity, have Control and have plenty of Choice!

With the flexibility and scope for so many themes and suppliers at this wonderful farm venue you are in for a real treat!

If your guests wish to camp on site after your wedding reception then there is ample area for camping in the field also.

So – just in case you didn’t catch the hint – this is a wonderful place to let your wedding dreams run wild!
